The Casa Encantada: A Luxurious Bel-Air Estate Now Up For $225 Million

The Bel-Air estate known as Casa Encantada is among the most famous houses in the world among observers of such things for its luxury and opulence. Recently, the Los Angeles Times reported that this magnificent property is now listed for sale at an astonishing $225 million, making it the most expensive public real estate listing in the entire country. This incredible price tag not only signifies the home's grandeur but also its historical significance.

Currently owned by financier Gary Winnick, Casa Encantada has set the record for the most expensive residential property in the U.S. on two separate occasions. If it manages to sell close to its asking price, it will far exceed the previous record holder, the mansion formerly known as Spelling Manor, which was sold for nearly $120 million earlier this year. However, the luxury real estate market is experiencing a downturn, which may affect its sale.

Designed in the 1930s by renowned architect James E. Dolena, Casa Encantada is a timeless architectural jewel. The estate was purchased by Conrad Hilton in 1950 and remained unchanged during his ownership for three decades. When Winnick acquired the property in 2000, he invested millions into restoring and updating the estate while preserving its classic Georgian style. Jeff Hyland of Hilton & Hyland remarked, “Could we duplicate this house today? Absolutely not…You couldn’t find the craftsmen; they’re all dead.”
